Are you excited for the festive party period? If so, then you may already have a load of plans to go out with friends and you’ll want to look your best! This is where your pre-party workout comes in! We’re all guilty of quickly popping down to the local gym, picking the highest weights possible and lifting away to get our “pump” on, right? Well, this isn’t actually the best use of our time, not to mention potentially dangerous! There are incredible benefits to a pre-party workout, but maybe not be the benefits you’d expect.
Muscle pump myth buster
The pre-party pump (also known as the muscle pump) is typically associated with strength workouts. This happens as the muscles are accumulating blood and water for support and as a result, causes swelling of the muscles, constricting the surrounding veins and because more blood essentially gets stuck in the area – you get “pumped”!
A muscle pump will make your muscles grow and this can happen in a matter of minutes! But here comes the bad news… This pump will likely diminish within 30 mins to 1 hour depending on how strenuous the strength workout was. This means unless you get ready really quick, a pre-party pump isn’t likely to be very noticeable!
If you want to build up muscle, unfortunately there is no short-term solution when it comes to exercise. If you really want to look bigger, you’ll need a carefully thought out diet plan and commit yourself to a strength training plan to put on muscle mass. Muscle growth relies on dedication with regular workouts for constant progression!

What are the benefits of a pre-party workout?
Even if the immediate effects of a pre-party pump don’t last long enough for you to get to your party, there are some significant benefits and reasons why you should still get that pre-party workout in!
- Doing something good for yourself will make you feel more confident.
- The post workout high will energise you for your night out.
- Build muscle tone that will help you stand straight upright with better posture.
Exercise is a great way to lift your mood and increase confidence into your everyday life, especially for that party! When you engage in high-intensity exercises, your body and brain produce hormones that have a positive impact on your mood, memory, energy levels, and sense of well-being. Known as endorphins, these are essentially the body’s feel-good chemicals.
Competitive sports, group exercise classes or high-intensity interval workouts (HIIT) should feature in the perfect pre-party workout. After a high intensity workout, you will feel more relaxed. All the tension and stress in your muscles and mind that you may have felt before the workout will be reduced, allowing you to show the best version of yourself!
So, when it comes to your pre-party workout – it all comes down to how hard you want to work to reap the emotional benefits. Although you may not necessarily look bigger to everyone else, the endorphins you release will make you feel larger than life to become the life of that party!
