ESCAPE Pain

A 6 week 12 session course for those living with Knee or Hip pain from Osteoarthritis.

What is ESCAPE Pain?

ESCAPE-Pain stands for Enabling Self-management and Coping with Arthritic Pain through Exercise. ESCAPE-Pain is a rehabilitation programme that helps people with chronic joint pain, often labelled Osteoarthritis (OA), self manage their condition. The programme aims to increase physical function and improve quality of life.  

ESCAPE-Pain is endorsed and supported by the British Society of Rheumatology, Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, Versus Arthritis and the AHSN Network. It delivers the NICE core recommendations of exercise and education for management of Osteoarthritis. 

What does the course involve?

The ESCAPE-Pain course in run over 6 weeks, but consists of 12 sessions. Each session is compromised of 20 minutes of education on topics such as managing pain, understanding the condition, physical activity and healthy eating followed by a 40 minute circuit style exercise session which aims to improve balance, strength, co-ordination and functional movement. 

Each participant will be monitored and given a home programme to follow in  between sessions. 

Prior to each course there will be a welcome and introduction session where participants can meet others on the course, ask questions, complete paperwork and find out about the exercise session. 

When is the next course and how to book?

The course will run every Monday 1:15pm-2:15pm & Wednesday 12:45pm-1:45pm for 6 weeks.

What to bring

All exercise equipment will be provided, it is recommended that you bring the following:

• Wear light comfortable clothing suitable for exercise
• Comfortable flat shoes, trainers if possible
• Bring a water bottle
• Bring reading glasses if you need them
