Leisure Centres to close in line with Government Guidance
Council-owned leisure centres in Epping Forest District are to close in line with government guidance. John Oxley, Chief Operating Officer for Places Leisure which manages the centres on behalf of Epping Forest District Council said: “Following the Government’s announcement this evening, I wanted to reassure you that we are now mobilising the close down of all facilities and all necessary communications to stakeholders. We expect to have concluded and closed down all facilities tonight.”
“This is an unprecedented time for us and please be assured of our unequivocal commitment to your community and our staff. We will, of course, be putting in place all the necessary arrangements to ensure that your facilities are safe, secure and maintained throughout the extent of the closure period.”
“We will also continue to engage with customers to encourage them to stay physically active and healthy in whatever way any restrictions may allow. Our online services will provide a content rich platform of support in that regard.”
“Whilst our Support Office in Camberley has also closed from this evening, please be reassured that all support teams are working remotely and your usual forms of contact with your local management team still prevail.”
“Should you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.”
“Thank you for your continued support and appreciation.”
Councillor Nigel Avey Contracts and Technical Services portfolio holder for Epping Forest District Council added. “The Council is continuing to work hard to maintain vital services and keep people safe. We have had to take some hard decisions, including closing our leisure centres. This was done with a heavy heart, but our priority is to follow national guidelines and keep you safe.”
Councillor Avey added: “All memberships will automatically freeze from tomorrow. I know people will understand our reasons for closure, but such a difficult time we also don’t want our residents to be out of pocket either.”
