Shay O'Grady's Fundraising Challenge

Shay takes part in an amazing swimming challenge at Thorncliffe Health & Leisure Centre

From the 22nd of September, Shay O'Grady began his challenge to swim an incredible 6,000 metres at Thorncliffe Health & Leisure Centre!

This is all part of a Triathlon that he is undertaking in order to raise funds for Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice. Nine-year-old Shay is swimming 12 lengths every Sunday until February in order to complete his 240-length target. Then, on the 8th of February 2020, he will walk from Hillsborough Stadium to Oakwell Stadium before the football match begins on Saturday, before cycling back to Hillsborough after the match is over! This is all in order to raise funds for the charity, who support his cousin, Evie Mae.

This is a huge task for Shay, and we are honoured that he has chosen Thorncliffe to complete the swimming leg of his journey.

Gail Parkin, Community Fundraiser at Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, said: “Shay is nothing short of inspirational and we’re all incredibly proud of him here at Bluebell Wood."

“His epic walk from the hospice to Hillsborough earlier this year really captured people’s hearts and raised a phenomenal sum for Bluebell Wood."

“Shay’s attitude and determination to help his cousin Evie-Mae and all the children supported by Bluebell Wood is truly remarkable, and I know it means a great deal to the families we support."

“Best of luck to the brilliant Shay on his latest adventure – we know you’ll do us proud once again.”

Shay has already managed to raise in excess of £10,000 for the charity, but we would love to see him raise even more! Shay has our full support in his challenge, and we wish him the best of luck.
